Cisco Ethernet Cards to Hit 100Gb Capacity

It looks like 100 gigabits per second is upon us, at least on the enterprise side: Cisco has unveiled plans for a new series of Ethernet cards that will exceed 100Gb capacity, according to eWEEK, following Alcatel-Lucent and Juniper Networks announcements of a similar nature.
The new cards will work in the company's ASR 9000 Series edge routers and will hit the market later in 2009. Cisco officials cite video network traffic and the growing mobile Internet as two key drivers of the increased capacity, according to the report.
Last month, Alcatel-Lucent and Juniper both unveiled 100GbE cards.
